Appointments

Kaylie had her first doctor's appointment on Monday. She weighed 6 pounds and 14 ounces so she has lost quite a bit but the doctor says to keep on feeding her and it was ok. They checked her bilirubin levels (for jaundice) and sure enough her level was on the high side at 18. When we're at home we don't notice how yellow she is but when we are at the doctor's office, it's really obvious. Must be the fluorescent lights. So we got the phototherapy beds that they are supposed to sleep on to help break down the excess bilirubin in the blood. She used the bed for 1 night and we rechecked her levels twice since Monday. On Tuesday, her level was 14.7 and today it has gone down to 13.6. There has been much improvement so no more lights for her. She had to sleep on the lights continuously except for feedings and diaper changes. Today her weight went back up to 7 pounds 2.5 ounces. I must say she is a good eater. =)

On Tuesday, Kaylie also got a sonogram on her kidneys to make sure they were ok since there are sometimes abnormalities associated with the kidneys and a 2 vessel cord. Everything looked normal!! Big relief. It's kinda crazy watching them do a sonogram on such a little person.
